to put a face to the name

I’m Faith, a 24-year-old writer, musician, and Northern California girl based between the San Francisco Bay Area and Sacramento. Some of you might recognize me from my music and some of you may not know me at all. Either way, I’m glad you’re here.

faith’s core exists because my pen has never been limited to just writing songs. I got my B.A. degrees in English and Psychology and this past spring, I wrapped up an M.A. in English Literature, so I’ve been doing quite a bit of non-song writing on a pretty regular basis. Believe it or not, before the fourth grade, I actually only ever really wrote in a traditional sense, specifically prose and fiction, before wandering into real songwriting territory (besides unserious little ditties here and there of course). So I like to think of this publication as less of an expansion of my abilities and more of a homecoming.

get to know me, speed run edition

faith’s core serves as an unlimited archive of my innermost thoughts, feelings, and opinions on whatever I want. I like to write about a little bit of everything, but mostly about selfhood, relationships, friendships, and the general ups and downs of being a person with hopes that my work resonates even just the tiniest bit.

I’ve really only ever wanted two (very specific) things out of my ability to write: attention, and to be able to articulate the emotions behind my original experiences that aren’t actually all that original, because I know there’s someone out there who has gone through something similar but hasn’t said anything out of a fear of alienation or ridicule. We’re all safe here. Let’s all just be alone and embarrassed together.

In short, I want to be seen and for people to feel seen through my work. I find pride in being the one to say something about certain subjects or emotions we skirt around confronting and discussing. I want to have conversations about the feelings we have, and I find comfort in learning I’m not the only one who feels it. As a result, I hope anyone who reads or listens to what I put out into the world is comforted right back.

Most of my work is free for your eyes and hearts to read, but paid subscribers do get some extras: free essays along with full exclusive access to the faith’s core archive, including posts that used to be free, but have since been paywalled. Paid readers also receive access to what I like to call “multimedia mini essays”, A.K.A. voice memos or demos of unreleased songs paired with some thoughts or a short essay about it.

On the off chance paid subscriptions aren’t your cup of tea, or something you can afford monthly basis, you can support me via my virtual tip jar here! Everything goes toward my writing and music projects. If you do end up supporting me through that page, please send me a direct message to let me know so I can comp you a paid subscription. <3

All this to say: welcome to the core. Thanks for stopping by — I hope you stick around for a little while. Or forever if that’s cool?
